Amara La Negra is a popular Afro-Latina singer known for her eccentric personality and voluptuous dark skinned beauty. I decided to use her as my muse for this series because of the minimal representation of darker skinned women in traditional paintings. Henri Matisse is classically known for painting nude women with nature backgrounds but he only painted women with fairer skin. I wanted to pay homage to him as one of my favorite painters but also include a woman of color.
All Paintings are Oil on Canvas.
